DOES GOD SPEAK TO HUMANS?
THE FOLLOWING IS FROM THE BOOK “YOUR PERFECT PARTNERSHIP” WRITTEN BY LOU AUSTIN.
Lou poses the question “Does God Speak to Humans?” This is his answer:
“If you believe in prayer, you believe you can speak to God. Would you deny that God can speak to you? Does not “Be still and know that I am God” mean that God will speak to us if we become quiet and listen?
It is sad that prayer has become so misunderstood. Most always, prayer is used to ask God to do what we want. As if God doesn’t know what we want before we ask! When Christ said “Ask and it shall be given unto you” was he not suggesting that we ask God to guide us in our every thought, word and deed? Surely, Christ did not intend that we ask God to do our will, as if we knew better than God what was best for us.
To the one suggesting “Let us pray”, Jesus might say “When did you stop praying and why?” Jesus regarded prayer as constant communion with God-not necessarily with words but in quiet recognition of God’s presence, listening for His guidance. Pray without ceasing.”
This message was given us in this book, published in 1975, which is no longer in print. We share this message because we feel it is timeless wisdom and serves as a reminder to “Pray without ceasing.” Too often we only remember to pray when we have made a mess in our lives and we want God to fix it for us. Lou shares in his writings that he learned over time to let God be in charge of his life as his “senior partner” in his own perfect partnership with God.
God allowed Lou to do things his way without consulting God and Lou shares that making decisions without God’s guidance never worked out as well as making decisions with God’s guidance. Both Sue and John have experienced the same results and we are dedicated to asking for and listening to God’s guidance continuously. We haven’t got this perfected yet, but are committed to the concept Lou suggests when he says “Pray without ceasing.”
